The fragrance of the Luban has a long-lasting effect. These grayish-white or greenish resins are extracted from Boswellia Sacra tree species that are found in abundance in the southern part of Oman. These trees have been here for thousands of years and have aged for more than a couple hundred years. The resins are hand-harvested by the locals using authentic methods for sourcing the high-quality resins. The process of harvesting is not an easy one as it requires special skills, expertise, and patience to excrete the milky resins, which may take up to 2 weeks from collection to solidification. The Hojary Frankincense resins are generally harvested from the months of April to June.
The Al Hojary frankincense is known to have therapeutic properties and has been used since ancient times for various medicinal and therapeutic purposes. The burning of the Luban is an integral part of Omani culture and is commonly used in almost every household. The scent from the Luban has a relaxing and soothing effect on the mind and body, relieving one from stress, anxiety, and depression. It also helps to get rid of bad odors and smells. It has been used throughout different civilizations and cultures for various religious and spiritual purposes as it purifies the air and/or negative auras. The oil from the Luban resins has been used in many medical products, skin and beauty care products, perfumes, and incense products.
Traditionally, Luban is burned on a few pieces of coal in an incense burner, creating a smoky and woody essence and emitting an earthy, woody, and citrusy fragrance.
